What to do on a Day of Fasting & Prayer
A day set apart by our Adventist Youth Ministries Department, from the beginning of the year, to fast and pray for the kids, youth, teens, and young adults of our Conference. There are many important things to pray for:
One/Two Weeks of Outreach (Health & How to Stop Smoking) by each Club, AY Society, Teen Small Group, Collegiate Small Group for 2010; your church and its relevance and desire to minister to young people in the XXI Century, power and boldness to reach the community around the church, young people who have left the church (make a list and pray for them by name), leaders of your church, and adults of the church.
Another idea for prayer is to challenge each member of your youth group or club to check his/her Contact List on their Cell Phones, scroll down the list and pray for each contact in that list that does not have Jesus in his/her life yet; after the prayer, they must do something about that person (call, visit, invitation to group or church, but do something special for the person after they have been prayed for).
Please, spread the word in your church, not only among the youth but also among the adults. They too can help us to fast and pray. This can be a day in which we take the time (which we would usually spend eating, watching TV, and listening to the radio or CDs) to pray.
Whom or What can we Pray for?
1. Pray for friends, family members, or church members who may be experiencing economic hardship during these difficult days. Buy some groceries and drop them off at their place after school/work together with a kind word and a prayer.
2. Think of people who have lost their jobs, pray for them, and give them a call of encouragement.
3. Use your break, lunch time, or recess to go for a Prayer Walk in a quiet place, park. Take time to talk to God and then take some time to listen to Him reply.
4. If you are in a very busy area with lots of traffic and people, and it is difficult to find a quite place. You may go out in the neighborhood and prayer walk for the residents in the buildings and the employer and employees in the business around you.
5. Invite a few of your Christian co-workers or school mates to have a brief prayer group during break, recess, or lunch time.
6. Create a Prayer List and keep it with you all day, pray for the people and requests in your list. Keep the list and continue to pray for it till God answers, cross out the requests that have been answer and share a testimony with others.
7. Look at your Friends’ List on your Facebook Account, MySpace Account, pray for your friends and E-mail them, letting them know you are praying for them.
8. Scroll down your Contacts in your cell phone and Pray for those who need Jesus most on this day, call them or text them, pray with them or write a Text Prayer and share it with them.
9. Pick some Promises from the Bible and keep them close to you while you pray. Take time to share the promises with someone during the day.
10. Collect some beautiful promises from the Bible and text them to friends in need (Christians and non-Christians alike).
11. Plan a Special Day to Pray for the Sick in your Church and the Community.
12. Identify someone who is ill, call them, explain James 5:13-16, let them know that if God so chooses they could be healed, and offer to come to their home with your pastor and Elder, so they can be anointed.
13. Pray for the individuals in our country’s, state's, and city's leadership.
14. Pray for families who are suffering as a result of catastrophies across the world.
