1. Greeting from Pastor Jose
The objectives of this brief Update are: (1) to highlight the progress at our newest refurbished building, which is approaching its final stages, and (2) to emphasize the work that is presently being done with the town and other camps in the area to change some zoning codes and regulations for Camps in the Town of Dover.
The Camp Berkshire Strategic Planning & Development Subcommittee/Team is responsible for the Master Plan and the Re-building of the Camp. Feel free to share your ideas, opinions, and feedback with me or other team members, they are: Gilberto Alvis, Walter Harris, Jaik Koo, Richard Mills, Hector Perez, Angel Reyes, and Lloyd Scharffenberg.
On the other hand, if you have questions or comments in regards to the administration, daily operations and management of the Camp, feel free to contact the Management Team at Camp Berkshire: Hector Perez (Camp Manager), Walter Harris (Associate Manager for Development), and Jesus Garcia (Assistant Manager for Maintenance). The chair-person for Camp Berkshire’s Operating Committee is our President, Pastor Richard Marker.
Following you will find a Report from the Development Subcommittee/Team:
2. Newly Refurbished Minnesota, with Capacity for 76 people, getting close to final stages (Pictures Included): The rooms will have two queen size beds, full bathroom, wood floors, air conditioning and heater with a maximum capacity of 4 people per room. This building is surrounded by a deck; a self- contained building with a kitchen, fellowship hall, and work out room. This building will be perfect for church retreats, groups, and families wanting to spend weekend/weekdays in nature. Following you will see pictures of BEFORE and the progress that has been made till TODAY. Though the bad weather has set the development crew back a few days, they are working hard and very close to the final stages of construction. This building will be ready for use in 2010.
BEFORE
TODAY
Right now we are in the process of finalizing on the winterized underground waterlines and electric lines. These had never been done before in the history of the camp, that’s the reason why, most of the cabins at Camp Berkshire are only usable in the summer and fall. Once Minnesota is finished it will be a year-round building, usable during any season.
3. Camp Berkshire working with other camps in the Town of Dover to change regulations for Camps: The new Master Plan for Camp Berkshire proposes several new buildings, which exceed the 6,000 square feet building code regulation for the Town of Dover. Since August, we have worked together with the other two Camps and the authorities of the town to change this regulation for the Camps in the Town of Dover (town where Camp Berkshire is located). Tonight is the final public hearing; if the new codes we have proposed are approved (20,000 square feet), it will make it easier to proceed with the implementation of the Master Plan.
Please keep the development of Camp Berkshire in your daily prayers, almost every single step taken to improve our camp requires vision, permits, approvals, public hearings, great public relations with the community, lots of teamwork on our part, and of course big money. I just mention these issues so you are aware of the amount of work which needs to be done every time, before a brick is moved.
We thank you for your feedback, support, offerings, donations, and understanding through this process. As our team works hard on the development of the Camp, our inspiration is two-fold: God, who deserves our best and you, Greater New York’s faithful and loyal members, who also merit excellence. We love Camp Berkshire and are working hard to bring it back to what it should be because it is a place where people meet God, make commitments to Him and His Church, a place where lives of children, youth, and adults are changed, and a place where long lasting memories, which strengthen the relationship with God and the Church are created.
Many Blessings!!!!
Jose
