Highlights of the Day
Our speaker for the Consecration Service will be Pastor Ernest Castillo, Vice-President of the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists which include the United States, Canada, & Bermuda. He is a former Youth Director and a long time church leader here in North America.
Our former Greater New York Conference Youth Directors will be honored on this day; we are expecting the presence of Pastors Lloyd Scharffenberg, Dan Pabon, Dionisio Olivo, and Ismael Perez Maisonet. Pastor Willie Oliver will not be able to be with us due to scheduling conflict but will also be honored at this time. This will be a very special feature.
For the first time in our Conference we will have an Investiture for Master Guides pursuing the Adventurer Leadership Award. The curriculum for this program has been written here by a Team of our Coordinators and Instructors. During our Investiture a small pioneer class will be invested with the Adventurer Leadership Award. Next year the program will be opened to Master Guides, who have been invested for two years or more.
There will about 100 Master Guides, PLA (Pathfinder Leadership Award), PIA (Pathfinder Instructor Award), ALA (Adventurer Leadership Award), AYLC (Adventist Youth Leadership Certification, and AYES Corps (Adventist Youth Emergency Services Corps (AYES Corps) candidates that after a year of training and hard work will be receiving their diplomas, uniforms, and insignias which only give evidence that they are ready to serve.
We are also requesting that anyone coming for the entire day brings a sack lunch (sandwiches, fruits, etc; please, nothing which needs to be warmed). Food will not be provided, but there will be space available to eat, outside of the sanctuary. The Manhattan Seventh-day Adventist Church is located at: 232 W 11th St., New York NY 10014-2276.
4. Calendar of Dates for the Department of Adventist Youth Ministries to be Released Next Week: The officially voted calendar of dates for the Department of Adventist Youth Ministries will be released next Saturday, November 21 at the Graduation/Investiture Service. It will also be posted online following the event. This is just the list of dates for 2010, the 2010 color calendar that many in Greater New York look forward to will be given out during the 2010 Adventist Youth Evangelism & Leadership Congress in January.
5. Pastor Jose’s Report & Prayer List: The last few weeks have been very exciting, filled with ministry throughout our Conference territory and with visioning, planning, phone calls, e-mails, visits, meetings, and appointments at the office. Following just a few highlights.
October 17: spoke for the Upstate New York Youth & Pathfinder Rally at the Poughkeepsie Seventh-day Adventist Church. Pastor John Osborne and his church were excellent hosts; they have a gorgeous campus there, with a beautiful church building, and a superb school structure, but more especially warm members. Teddy Williamson, together with the AY & Pathfinder Coordinators, and the leaders of the local churches in Upstate NY did an excellent job. On Sunday, October 18, met for brunch with a friend and former GNYC Youth Director, Pastor Willie Oliver; it was great to get together with him for a few moments. He asked me to say hello to you for him.
Weekend of October 23 & 24: the Bible Bowl delegation of Greater New York, led by our Coordinators Tamika Goburn, Kemly McGregor, Ike Karl, Hope Russell, & Virgenia Durant, was very successful at the BAYDA Finals. They came back having taken one First Place (Juniors from the Queens Ghana Church) and two Second Places (Senior Youth from North Bronx & Junior Beginners from Yonkers). Congratulations to our GNYC delegation for making such a big impact during the Bible Bowl Final. Special thanks to each player, coach, parents, and supporters who were there for them during this special time.
October 24: we spent a good part of the day at the Bay Ridge Seventh-day Adventist Church for a Brooklyn Youth Rally, Dante Inokio, Damaris Gaskins, Sherma Baptiste (Coordinators in Brooklyn) worked together with the team of youth leaders from several churches to create a beautiful atmosphere. Had the privilege of speaking for the worship service. The entire day, including Sabbath School, worship, baptism, child dedication, lunch and afternoon program was beautiful. On behalf of my family I must say we enjoyed it a lot. Dante and the Team, thanks for your hard work in Brooklyn. Pastor Nixon Thomas, thanks for your support to Youth Ministries. October 25: we had a full day at the Delancey Church, which opened its doors for the Final Examination for AYLC, AYES Corps, & Master Guide Candidates. After that, we have devoted time to grading exams with the instructors and reading and grading the binders of over 100 candidates.
October 28 to 31: we spent a few days speaking to the Atlantic Union College students in a special weekend of prayer sponsored by the Student Ministerial Association of the College. There I was able to connect with the leaders of the Student Ministerial Association, Harry Gomez and Billwayne Jamel, both Greater New Yorkers, and the College Chaplain, Pastor Danny Sierra, also a Greater New Yorker. On Friday afternoon, we went out to eat with the Greater New York Conference students and of course a few beloved neighbors from Northeastern Conference who also came on board for the good food. We all enjoyed the time together. Then we were off to Silver Spring, MD, to participate in Evangelism Committee Meetings of the North American Division, November 2-4.
November 7: preached at the Broadway Spanish Church, a beautiful church very close to Central Park in Manhattan. After having a delicious lunch with Pastor Camilo Carvajal, his family, and the church we drove to the brand new Central Mount Vernon Church, the former New Rochelle Spanish Church, for the inauguration of their brand new building. I was inspired and filled with awe by the work the members of the church have done, transforming the building into one of our most beautiful church buildings in Greater New York. Congratulations to the Central Mount Vernon Church and their Pastor Jose Montano.
Wednesday night: it was at the Co-Op City Church, Pastor Erondu had mentioned that youth and young adults there were conducting a Revelation Seminar. Had the privilege of seating down and hearing a beautiful exposition on Revelation by Kojo, a teenager. Thanks to the Co-Op Church, and its leadership for giving their kids the opportunity to minister in a relevant manner.
PRAYER LIST
Please keep on praying for Pastor Steve Torres, and Mylaira Gonzalez.
In my last FYI I wrote the following Prayer Request: “I would also like you to pray for Joseph Arneaud, a young man from the Manor Road Church, in Staten Island, and his family. Joseph’s mother, Diane has been missing for a few days and he asked me to request that everyone prays for her, we are praying for her safe return to her home and family. Please keep her, Joseph, and the family in your prayers. I’ll keep you up to date, as Joseph communicates with me.”
Joseph’s mother was found and has been reunited with the family; let’s keep praying for her health. Praise God, He answers prayer.
Always keep us in your prayers. Happy Sabbath!!!
