FYI from Pastor Jose Cortes Jr.
Director
January 2010
Greetings!

I would like to thank God, our Team of Coordinators, Instructors, and Event Team, as well to each youth, young adult, and adult who attended our IV Adventist Youth Evangelism & Leadership Congress last weekend. I would also like to thank my colleague the pastors and our local churches that were very supportive in helping youth and young adult leaders to attend the Congress.

The Congress was attended by about 1,500.  About 425 Candidates were dedicated to begin the Classes for Adventist Youth Leadership Certification (AYLC), Adventist Youth Emergency Services Corps (AYES Corps), Master Guide (MG), Adventurer Leadership Award (ALA), Pathfinder Leadership Award (PLA), and Pathfinder Instructor Award (PIA). During the Congress there were other equipping tracks: Evangelism & Preaching, Life 101, Health, and Education.

Another highlight of the IV Congress was the recognition for the Teen of the Year; Amanda Clarke; the Young Adult of the Year, Fiona Lewis; the AY Leader of the Year, Christine Sharpe; and the AY Coordinator of the Year, Dante Ynoquio. The AY Ministries of the Year were also awarded to the Spanish Park Chester Church (1), Three Angels Church (2), New Haven Church (3).  The Felix Hernandez Medal of Courage and Service was also inaugurated and received by Felix's parents and sister Felix Sr., Rosa, and Evelise in a very emotional ceremony.

The Theme for this year in Greater New York is FACE2FACE with Jesus.  It was a privilege for me to be able to challenge our youth and young adults to be Agents of Hope, Happiness, and Health during 2010.

Love & Blessings!!!

Pastor Jose's Prayer List:

I would like to ask for your prayers for the following very important requests:

1. Carlos Mieses and his family need all of our prayers and positive spirit.  They don't need our pity, but our prayers and very positive attitudes and words of hope and encouragement.

2.  Our team of missionaries in Haiti, a group will be coming back on Sunday, but another group left on Thursday.  Pray for them.

3. The people suffering as the result of the earthquake in Haiti; let's pray that God will bring healing, comfort, and hope to those suffering there and here.
