1. Mission Trip to Jamaica Registration (March 16-23, 2008): For this year we have planned several Mission Trips. The first one is the Mission Trip to Jamaica. Walter Harris, AY Coordinator and Mission Trip Specialist in Greater New York, and Teddy Williamson, AY Coordinator have been working together with us and the Central Jamaica Conference President and Youth Director in order to make this trip a reality. This trip is for Young Adults, College University Students, and of course we will not turn down a teen or an adult wanting to go. The Mission is open for Missionaries wanting to make a difference for the Lord outside of our US boundaries.
The Mission will include the repair and painting of an Infirmary (Nursing Home) and an Orphanage in the area of St. Catherine. We are also planning to distribute clothes, personal hygiene items, and school supplies to the individuals in these two institutions.
We will be staying at CampVerley, in Central Jamaica. The trip will include a visit to the Central Jamaica Conference Headquarters, a tour of SpanishTown, a sightseeing trip to the NorthCoast, and a stopover at the NorthCaribbeanUniversity, in Mandeville.
The cost of the Trip is $800.00 and includes: Airfare, Food, Lodging, local transportation, T-shirt, bottle water, and donation towards the mission projects we will work on while there. Sightseeing trips, tours, and souvenirs, will be optional and will have an extra cost.
If there is someone who wishes to contribute to this trip with funds, Tax Deductible Donations are welcomed and needed. They will go directly and exactly to our mission projects. If you find people who are able to donate $1,000.00, $500.00, etc. The funds will be used to alleviate the needs of a deprived community in Jamaica.
The Registration Form is posted in our website and has been mailed out to each local church Youth Leader. People have already called and e-mailed to reserve their spots. You can e-mail or call us right away to reserve your space in this trip.
Once you download and send your registration it must be accompanied by a down payment of $400.00 this week. The remaining $400.00 must be paid prior to March 6.
2. Teen & Young Adult Small Groups Update: We have begun a new section in our website dedicated to Small Group Ministry, this section includes tips, how to, and Small Group Lessons for Young Adults and for Teens. Lessons and tips will be updated on a weekly basis. The website is www.gnycyouth.com (Go to Resources and the click on Small Groups and you’ll have some choices on different Small Group topics).
3. InterHope 20/30 (March 8 @ Church of the Advent Hope): It begins at 7:00 PM Sharp. Allows College, University Students, Young Adults, and Young Professionals to experience their faith as a journey, giving people the space to encounter God. The purpose is to bring all of the Adventist College & University students, young adults (18-35), young professionals, and their non-Adventist friends together for worship. The evening will be filled with music, the Word, small group discussions, and prayer. After the service, there will be a social activity; come ready to enjoy the spiritual and the social in each others company.
This event is open and safe for everyone, invite your friends. It is also casual; come as you are. Connect. Relate. Discover. InterHope 20/30.
The address for the church is: 111 E. 87th Street, New York NY 10128. It is very accessible through public transportation. Flyer and more info on website.
4. Youth Awareness Weekend YAW/Teens Sexuality Awareness Weekend (April 11-13 @ the Stamford Hilton): This program takes a comprehensive approach to the issues of adolescents (12-17 year olds) and is presented over the period of a weekend primarily by Christian physicians, pastors and individuals with expertise in the area of psychology and counseling. Doctor Herbert Goulding, a Greater New York Conference Physician and Author of this Ministry will lead the team of very qualified physicians during the weekend. They have dedicated their time and effort to help young people understand and prepare for life in a way that would increase the possibilities of a favorable outcome, thus decreasing the opportunities for regrets and poor outcomes.
The program has been developed to address the unaddressed needs of young people, with regards to the multiple aspects of their sexuality, taking a holistic and an unconventional approach. A shorter version of this program is available for church especially at AY time, and non-retreat events.
We have chosen a high quality hotel, formerly known as the Stamford Westin, now the Stamford Hilton, in StamfordConnecticut, because we agree that our TEENS need to be treated like royalty. Beautiful rooms with Heavenly Beds. On Saturday night and Sunday, there will be time for the indoor heated swimming pool and the exercise room. The Registration Price will be announced shortly.
The limit for this event is 100, only the first 100 registered will be able to attend. We would like to have all of the time necessary to interact and to work directly with the teens during the weekend. There will not be Sabbath ONLY Registrations, we would like those attending this event to attend the entire weekend. Each church group coming needs to bring a chaperone per room.
