Adventist Youth Societies in Greater New York Conference

Members of the Adventist Youth Society
There are many organized and active Adventist Youth Societies throughout the entire territory of the Greater New York Conference. The official meeting days vary from church to church; some meet on Friday nights and others meet on Sabbath afternoon, before the end of the Sabbath. For more information on Adventist Youth Societies and their schedule, please contact the church directly. The Greater New York Conference Website has the information for all of our churches www.gnyc.org, click on Find a Church.

There must be an Adventist Youth Society in every church, whether it follows the traditional and historical model or a new creative model is implemented, there must be a time and a place in every church, when and where the youth and young adults are able to conduct a special service by the Youth and for the Youth. Adults are always welcome and appreciated, of course, with the clear understanding that Adventist Youth Society programs are created to reach out and to fulfill the needs of the youth and young adults of the church. The Adventist Youth Society is not a repetition of the Sabbath Worship Service, the Sabbath School Program, or the Wednesday Night Prayer Meeting.

Some churches do very well with the traditional model. Other churches have opted to have more informal programs, with different settings; names such as The Cave, Escape, Encounters, Upper Room have been given to the Adventist Youth Society in various places to make it more appealing to the youth and young adults involved and those who need to be reached. The Adventist Youth Ministries Department in Greater New York encourages the leader and the churches to take the approach necessary, whether it is the traditional model or another creative method, to make sure that our youth and young adults from our churches and their communities are ministered to and reached for Jesus. As one of the pioneers and founders of our church said, inspired by God in the context of the evangelistic work to be done in the big cities, “New methods must be introduced. God's people must awake to the necessities of the time in which they are living. God has men whom He will call into His service,--men who will not carry forward the work in the lifeless way in which it has been carried forward in the past…” Evangelism, (p. 70, paragraph 1)

It is important that youth programs not be isolated from the rest of the church. In addition to their participation in the Adventist Youth Society, the youth and young adults of the church should be integrated into responsible leadership in diverse church programs. Youth and Young Adults should be active in all lines of church service, including: Elders, Treasury, Secretariat, Deacons, Deaconesses, and Community Services, among others
